Coastal

Every Labor Day the J. Reuben Clark Society (aka Mormon) Law students/families go to the Oregon coast. We picnic, freeze to death, watch our kids eat several cups of sand, and have one heck of a time.

Last year Ev cried hysterically from the moment we stepped foot on the sand to the moment we walked through our apartment door. (In case you are wondering that is about 6.3 hours of crying)
I also pumped 2 bottles of breastmilk to the sound of crashing waves.
Nothing says enjoyable family getaways like the sounds of the Medela Freestyle amongst the wincing pains of a first time mom while simultaneously smelling the Sea Lions and realizing that no, your husband is not to blame for the deathly aromas you are inhaling.

In contrast, Labor Day 2012 was a success. It involved minimal crying and like I said, lots of sand eating. Ev loved being free to run wherever she pleased all day.
Perhaps I may suggest holding sacrament meeting on the beach?
It would cut Nick's migranes in half and allow me to wear heels to church again.

Seriously though, the coast was fun. I love all the Law People.

Lovers.
(Not me and Matt, though Matt is an awesome guy - but if I had to choose to marry a Vickery, I would choose Emma because she makes the MOST AMAZING APPLE COBBLER on Earth and she'd do Yoga with me everyday)

Look at these two!
(William is giving the camera "The Smolder.")

We're adorable, I know.

The Vickerys.

We made smores around the campfire, chased our kids, and chatted about how much we missed each other all summer. Oh, and we may have stopped at Mo's!

Here's to another year of Law School...

Flashback Friday: The Man I Married

This picture needs no explanation, but if you know me, there's always an explanation...

I would say Nick is the cat's meow, but I think cats belong in Hades, so let's settle for the bee's knees maybe? Big Cheese? Real McCoy?
He's something spesh* anyway.

We're back in Eugene, back to the grind. Nick thrives in "the grind." Day to day living is his specialty. He accomplishes what most do weekly in a days time.
And he STILL has spare time to fish.

Speaking of fish, the ocean was so good to me when I threw my pole in.
(You can go barf in your garbage can now. Is being annoyingly cheesy hereditary?)

*Kardashian dictionary:
Spesh = Special

**addendum: The following conversation is real. It took place on our couch tonight.
Me (to Nick): You're wearing the heart monitor I gave you. Is it because Chris on Parks and Rec said his resting heart rate is 28 beats per minute?
Nick: ...
Me: What's your resting heart rate?
Nick: 41.
More silence while we watch Parks and Rec.
Nick: Hey will you set your alarm for 3AM so you can get up and check my resting heart rate?
Me: Haha.
Five minutes later...
Nick: I was serious.

Ketchup

Until I was 20 years old, the only condiment that I would EVER eat was ketchup. I still hate 90% of condiments, but thanks to Nick I will now eat BBQ sauce.
I also love pesto more than my left arm.
But that's about it.
Anyway, this post is about the other kind of ketchup - catch up.

I'm so clever!

Thinking about catching up on this blog makes me want to dry heave, but I will do it!

The last weekend before school, we flew to California to see Nick's cousin Clarke who got home from his mission. It was a blasty-blast. The OC never disappoints! (Pretty sure Nick would punch me in the face if I said "OC" in front of him) But I have a deep connection with Seth Cohen and Ryan Atwood, so I'll say "OC" whenever I want.*

*TRUE STORY: My freshman year of BYU, we (my roommate and five best girlfriends) moved the couch from the 2nd floor shared living space into one of our rooms so we could comfortably watch The OC. (Have you ever tried to fit 6 girls on one twin bed? No bueno) Anyway, we would skip class, eat pints of Ben and Jerry's, and cry when Summer kissed Seth in the spiderman suit. If I twittered, or tweeted or whatever its called, I would say something like this about those moments: #glorydayseventhoughwewerefat.

Anyway, Clarke returned from Honduras honorably and it was so fun to see everybody.
He gave a slam dunk Homecoming talk and was surprising normal for an RM.

The guys went on a man date to the golf course. (Thank goodness I'm not a man because I think golf is the MOST BORING THING ON THE PLANET. Also, Tiger Woods I hate you)

We brought a toddler to California with us.

Evie's favorite food is french fries. No food can compete with them. She LOVES them.
She might have eaten an entire container of In-N-Out fries.
What a fatty - except she's a peanut, so that doesn't really make sense.

Ev loves her aunties almost as much as she loves her Grandma.
And she loves her Grandma almost as much as she loves her Grandma's dog.

Nick's family has a dog named Bentley.
And Evie is obsessed with him. She shrieks whenever he is near and tries to pet him while simultaneously poking his eyes out. Its hilarious.

We went to the mall so Ev could ride the carousel.
She liked it for about thirty seconds.

Jordan/Andersen Clan.

Cousins!

Sibs.

The Evies!

Is this worthy of a Christmas card or what?

Come November, I'll be begging for some California sun.

The Good Mom's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Please bless this chocolate chip cookie, popsicle, and grilled cheese
that it will nourish and strengthen Evie's body today.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
